Dr. Muhammad Hallaj, Chair
A member of the Palestine Independent Commission on Citizens' Rights and the Palestine National Council, Muhammad writes and lectures on Palestinian affairs. He served as Vice-President for Academic Affairs at Birzeit University and as Director of the Council for Higher Education in Palestine. Muhammad also founded and directed the Palestine Research and Educational Center, publisher of Palestine Perspectives for many years.
Mr. Ghassan Bishara
Ghassan Bishara worked for many years as the Washington, DC correspondent for newspapers and magazines in the Middle East and Europe. He serves as a commentator on Middle East issues for various radio and television stations in the US and the Arab world.
Dr. Edward V. Jones
Ed Jones chaired the program of Adult Learning at George Mason University and has been teaching and writing in the field of adult learning for many years. Ed served on the board member of the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia and is very active in the community of adult literacy and adult basic education.
Mr. Michael Saah
A native of Ramallah, Palestine, Michael Saah has been involved in philanthropic and community activities in the Washington DC area for many years. He is also deeply committed to supporting educational efforts and community organizations in Palestine.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:
Dr. Dixiane Hallaj
Dixie has a Ph.D. in Literacy and Adult Learning and a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Management from George Mason University. Her award-winning dissertation Caught by Culture and Conflict: Palestinian Refugee Women's Perceptions of Illiteracy and Education grew out of the research that started as a feasibility study for family literacy centers within the refugee camps. Dixie has worked with nonprofit organizations in the Greater Washington DC area since the mid-1980's.
