Illustrator's Guidelines
Let us put some samples of your work on the website. You can collaborate with an author (or authors) to enhance the stories.
Have a story idea? Start with the drawings and we will help with the text.
Remember that new readers often use illustrations to aid their comprehension and understanding as well as vocabulary clues. The more elementary the reading level, the more important illustrations are to the reader. Illustrations may be in any style you would like to present. Cartoons, simple line drawings, water colors, sketches, or any other medium are acceptable.
How to Submit Your Work:
Submit your drawings as image files attached to an email to dixie at opaliteracy.org (use @ for at)
The covering email should include the following:
o Your Name
o Your Email (We will forward any reader comments and you may choose to continue the correspondence directly but we will NOT release this information.)
About your information disclosure:
o Would you like your name and/or email published with your sample drawings?
o If we do not put your email on the site, may we send it to the authors of accepted stores so that you may correspond directly?
Writer's Guidelines
Think you can't write? Our editors will help you!
Story length: 2 - 10 pages. If you have a longer manuscript, you may submit it as a serialized story.
Content:
o Write about anything you think would interest a reader. It can be a real event or completely fictitious. Often stories loosely based on something that really happened are the easiest to write.
o Many of our readers may ask their children for help with the computers so do not include anything you would not want a 12 year old to read.
o Remember, our readers are adults with their own families and backgrounds.
How to submit manuscripts:
Attach the document to an email to: editor@opaliteracy.org
Your email should include the following information:
