OPAL SUPPORTS GAZA SCHOOL INITIATIVE An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure
The relentless aggression in Gaza has resulted in many children being traumatized to the extent that their schooling is jeopardized. The Gaza Community Mental Health Programme, headed by Dr. Eyad Sarraj, works with the schools in an effort to help these children.
The Organization to Promote Adult Literacy is proud to announce its support of this program through a grant to the Gaza Mental Health Foundation.
We decided to follow the ancient saying and use the funds dedicated for literacy in Palestine for the prevention of adult literacy in Gaza. The intolerable conditions under which the children of Gaza attempt to get an education, coupled with the many years of abortive attempts to establish family literacy centers in the West Bank convinced us that this was the proper course of action.
The grant that the Organization to Promote Adult Literacy received through the auspices of George Mason University for literacy projects in the Northern Virginia Area is currently supporting a project involving local food bank recipients.
Our thanks to George Mason University and to Verizon for enhancing our abilities to serve the literacy needs of Northern Virginia.
